Switching from Wefts to Keratin Bond Fusions
Is it time to switch out of your wefts and into fusions?
Keratin bonds, also called fusions, may not be the latest buzz in hair extensions and they don't get the same press time as hand tied extensions. However, they're not only a classy classic, I actually prefer them over hand tied wefts and other methods for many of my clients. And here's why.
Wefts aren't for everyone.
Don't get me wrong. Hand tied wefts are great and, for some clients, they are the perfect match for boosting volume. Clients love extending their long, flowing hair with wefts. You'll love them too as long as you mainly wear your hair down and have a lot of hair around the halo of your head to conceal the attachments. For best results, your hair needs to be strong enough to support the weight of the additional hair.
"Then why did my previous salon put me in wefts?"
Well, that's a good question, and one I hear frequently when a client comes to me for advice, unhappy with her weft extensions from a previous salon. If your stylist only knows how to install wefts, that's what you're going to get. Hair extensions are barely covered in cosmetology school. If and when they're taught, it's usually hand tied wefts because they are popular. But I find that my clients don't want popular hair extensions as much as they want natural looking hair extensions that command compliments from strangers and the envy of all their friends.
Glo Salon is a certified, multi-method hair extensions salon.
I've seen it all, literally. I've worked with just about every type of hair extension on the market. I've installed and personally worn every attachment method imaginable. So I'm really good at matching my clients with the best ones, and I can spot a bad hair extensions install a mile away.
Here is an example of a client who switched from wefts to fusions.
She recently found Glo and came in for a consult because she didn't like her current hair extensions as much as she thought she would. She had a mix of tapes and wefts, but yet they felt bulky in her fine hair and when she work her hair up, her extensions seemed too obvious. I inspected her installation and pointed out how the extensions didn't even match her hair color, the wefts were folded instead of trimmed to size, and there was way too much excess thread. The thread color stood really out against her rooted color. So we talked through her options and we decided that it would be best to remove her extensions.
We came up with a plan to freshen up her look while she saves up for a new set of extensions. We'll either do fusions, tape ins or a mix of the two. For now, I removed the hot mess of tapes ins and snarled wefts, then brightened up her color with a cool-toned blonde, and trimmed off old ends. Between a cute haircut and a color adjust, she's got a completely new look while she awaits her next set of extensions.
When to choose Wefts vs Fusions Hair Extensions
When you come in for a hair extensions consultation, I'll ask how you like to style your hair as well as assess your hair's condition. Here are the types of things I consider when trying to decide if you're a good match for hand tied wefts or if you would be better off in GreatLengths Fusions.
